Shapely Tank by White Lies Designs
Yarn: Misti Cotton (83% Peruvian Cotton, 17% Silk)
Needles: Size 8 (Crystal Palace Bamboo)
Gauge: 4 sts/inch
Size/Measurements: 36″ bust & hips, 29″ waist
Finished: 5/2006
Modifications: Significant! The suggested gauge for the pattern is 5.5 sts/in. My yarn was worsted so I modified the pattern to the gauge of 4 sts/in, I determined the st/in and rows/in ratio (0.8) and multipled the pattern numbers by the ratio to figure out the number of stitches to cast on, how many rows to work, etc. I also modified the waist shaping to be slightly narrower and the neck and back lower. (modifications detailed below)
Comments: I really enjoyed this pattern. I thought the directions were clear and the diagram was very useful for me when I was making my modifications.
FO photo
I’m not so happy about how the photo turned out, but I got 3 mosquito bites trying to take them–I’m not going outside again for a while. Note to self, don’t take photos at dusk in the South.
Shaping detail
Here you can see the details of the waist and bust shaping. The crease is from it being folded up for so long.
Modifications
Front. Cast on 72 stitches, work the pattern as directed for the bottom shaping–only wrap five stitches on each side instead of six. side decreases-follow as directed, 62 sts then work 8 rows evenly side increases-increase every 4th row 5 time, 72 sts I worked in 3 short rows for the bust placed every 4 sts.
Armholes and neckline. Bind off 4 stst at the beginning of the next 2 rows and then 2 sts at the beginning of the following 2 rows. Follow pattern decreases as directed, 56 sts Work evenly for 2 rows, the bind off center 22 sts. Follow pattern neck decreases as directed, dec 1 st at the neck edge EOR 8 times, 10 sts left on each shoulder (if I were to do this again I would make the shoulders a bit narrower).
Back. same as front modifications-omitting short rows and binding off neckline as directed
Finishing. follow pattern as directed (I used seed stitch instead of garter).
Details: Made with the leftover yarn from my tank in the same gauge.
Comments: Again, a quick and easy pattern. Basically it’s just the beginnings of a top-down raglan, I didn’t realize this until I started the pattern, but I still think it was worth the $3.95.

Very cute! I’ve never knit anything top down but I plan on it – that’s good to know aout the OSW. It’s always on my mind ot knit up – quick and dirty. Thanks for posting all those mods, too.
I have to say that One Skein Wonder works perfectly with Shapely Tank… and it looks good on you
Thank you! Just so you know, I changed the garter stitch edging to seed stitch for the shapely tank and did seed stitch edging all the way around the OSW.
