Pattern: Big Bad Baby Blanket
Pattern source: Stitch n Bitch
Materials: Cascade 220 superwash, size 8 needles
Measurements: 39×45x36×36 (I told you it was trapezoidal–I probably could block it square, but I don’t think the recipient or the baby will care!)
Start Date: 4/2006
Finish: 10/22/2006
Yarn review: I love Cascade 220 superwash! I am definitely going to knit with it again. The yarn is so soft and it’s machine washable and dryable. I washed it on the regular cycle and dried it on low for about 20 minutes and it came out beautifully. It was even softer after washing. I would highly recommend this yarn for a baby blanket or anything else that would require easy care.
Pattern review: I realize now that I didn’t actually follow the pattern at all. I just saw it and thought, okay, a baby blanket with a seed stitch border and squares of stockinette and reverse stockinette. Then I swatched, figured out my measurements and stitch counts, knit in seed stitch for 2.5 inch, then blocks of reverse St st and St st for 15.5 inches, reverse and cast off! I have no idea what the pattern is like, but the concept is so simple I don’t think anyone who can knit, purl and use a measuring tape should have a problem.
Pictures

I tried to get a good photo, but with the artificial lighting, the flash, the size of the thing and the color it was hard. The perspective is odd too, because the top of the blanked in this pic is actually longer .
detail

You can see the color detail much better here. It’s got lovely flecks of blue and gold.

I love your baby blanket! I am about to attempt the same pattern. I’m very much a beginner. I’ve only made scarves and couple of very simple hats. Just wanted to say, great job! I hope I can do as well! Oh, and a question, do you ever “block” blankets? I don’t think I see the point in blocking.
This is a gorgeous color!! I made the Big Bad Baby Blanket for my nephew. I started right away when I found out my sister was pregnant (even though I didn’t know what the baby would be) because I knew as slowly as I knit, it would take 8 months to knit the blanket. I did it in a beautiful dark red, which was fitting for either boy or girl! My only problem, since we have moved, I have misplaced my Stitch ‘n Bitch book! I just found out I am pregnant and want to make one for my own baby!! Any help with this pattern would be greatly appreciated! PS, for the beginning knitter, this is a great pattern!
